CANDLE CARE
A little attention goes a long way.
THE FIRST BURN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT.
Always allow your candle to burn until the entire surface has melted to the edges of the vessel on the first use. This prevents tunnelling - where the wax burns down the centre and leaves a ring of unused wax around the sides. For most Velas candles this will take between 2-3 hours. It is worth the wait.
TRIM YOUR WICK. EVERY TIME.
Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately 5mm. A trimmed wick means a cleaner, steadier flame, less soot, and a longer burn time overall. Small scissors or a dedicated wick trimmer both work well.
KEEP BURNS BETWEEN 2-4 HOURS.
Burning for longer than 4 hours at a time can cause the wick to move or lean, the vessel to overheat, and the fragrance to diminish. Shorter, more frequent burns will give you a better scent throw and a longer lasting candle.
KEEP AWAY FROM DRAFTS.
A flickering flame is more than an aesthetic issue - it causes uneven burning, excess soot, and accelerates wax consumption. Keep your candle away from open windows, fans, and air conditioning vents for an even, clean burn.
NEVER LEAVE A BURNING FLAME UNATTENDED.
Always burn within sight and keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials. Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface and never move a candle while the wax is liquid.
KNOW WHEN TO STOP.
Stop burning your candle when approximately 10mm of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel. Burning beyond this point can cause the glass to overheat.
REPURPOSE YOUR VESSEL.
Once your candle has reached the end of its life, the amber glass vessel is worth keeping. To clean it out, pour boiling water into the vessel and allow the remaining wax to float to the surface as it cools. Remove the wax, wash with warm soapy water, and the vessel is ready to use again - as a small vase, a pen holder, or whatever suits your space.
Burn thoughtfully and your Velas candle will reward you with every hour.
